Company Description:

Oregon Convention Center (OCC) is the largest convention facility in the Pacific Northwest. It offers 255,000 square feet of contiguous exhibit space, 50 meeting rooms, two grand ballrooms, full-service catering and an 800-space underground parking garage. Visitors can get to and from the downtown hotel core and Portland International Airport with ease via city light rail and street cars.

The OCC strives to be the most sustainable convention center in the world — and the first choice as a venue for green meetings. OCC has been a LEED® certified building since 2004, and in 2014 achieved recertification at the Platinum level, one of only two convention centers in the nation to earn the highest level of certification offered through the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC). Many green components are built into its daily operations, such as event recycling and composting, waste diversion, water and energy efficiencies, and purchasing local food for catering.

The center has also earned APEX/ASTM certification, the first standards created uniquely for green meetings and events. This program, verified by the Green Meeting Industry Council (GMIC), provides a roadmap for planning sustainable events, working with vendors, guests and the regional community to help support the environment. OCC attained recertification under the program in 2017.

The center seeks to effectively manage the materials that are brought into, and disposed at, the center. It has a long term goal of reaching at least an 80% waste diversion rate, and partners with its clients to ensure that the material brought into the building can be recycled, donated, or taken back by the company that produced it.

OCC has installed one of the largest solar arrays on a convention center in the U.S. More than 6,500 rooftop solar panels are expected to produce 25% of the facility’s electricity usage, helping it to offset utility costs and meet its carbon emission reduction goals.

Construction on the new 600-room Hyatt Regency Portland at the Oregon Convention Center began in 2017. OCC will also start several renovation and remodeling projects to refresh and update its space in time for the opening of the hotel in 2019.
